A little history of Ha Giang
Ha Giang has been inhabited for thousands of years, with evidence of Dong Son Bronze Age cultures and ancient settlements in the fertile Lo River valley. The province became integrated into Vietnam during the Hung Kings period and later developed as a remote but significant region during French Indochina, playing a role in Vietnam's colonial and independence struggles.
Officially established as an administrative province in 1891, Ha Giang gained legendary status for the iconic Ha Giang Loop road, carved by hand between 1959-1965 by workers using hammers, crowbars, and explosives.
